Edit Mode

The Edit Mode in UNIVERSE is the place where you build your project. It gives you access to all the different kinds of Controls, Devices, Stages and their arrangement.

Note: This section describes the layout of the default interface arrangement of the Edit Mode. Since UNIVERSE uses a docking system for the different panels and toolbars you can rearrage and undock parts of the UI to display them in separate windows. You can reset the Edit Mode layout with "View" > "Reset Workspace".

Workspace

The main workspace fills the largest area of the UNIVERSE window. It displays all your Stages and their Controls, Modifiers and Devices. Use the right or middle mouse button to pan around the Workspace and the mouse wheel or the magnifying glass icons in the bottom right corner to adjust the zoom. A new Stage as well as Controls can be added to the Workspace from the Toolbar. The eye icon in the bottom right corner open up the Quick Search overlay that helps you find Controls that have a specific name, Control or Command.

Operate Controls in Edit Mode

To be able to test Commands without having to switch to SHow Mode everytime you can also operate Controls in Edit Mode by pressing and holdong the Shift key.

Toolbar

The Toolbar to the left of the Workspace hold all available Controls and Layout Tools. To add a Control simply drag an drop it onto the Stage. Some items in the Toolbar like the Fader, the Monitor and the Stage icon have a little arrow in the top-right corner that opens a flyout menu with more options:

  • Fader: As an alternative to the Fader you can add the Encoder to your project.
  • Monitor: This opens a flyout menu with more advanced Controls like Video, NDI, Color Picker or Access Management. As soon as a Control is used from the advanced Controls this Control replaced the icon in the main toolbar.
  • Stage: By default clicking the Stage icon adds a new Stage. The flyout contains the option to add a Template Stage to the project.

Layout Tools

Layout Tools allow you to create arrangements of Controls generatively.

  • Grid Layout: Adds a layout template for a grid.

Info Panel

The Info Panel on the right side hold information on selected objects, your project structure and scheduled events, IO messages and the StreamDeck integration.

Properties

All Controls, Devices, Modifiers and Stages in UNIVERSE have Properties that configure the object and influence its appearance and behaviour. The Properties tab of the Info Panel lists all Properties for the selected element. When hovering over the name of a Property many of them provide a tooltip with a more detailed description of the effects.

Organizer

The Organizer provides an hierachic overview over the current project. It lists all stages and Controls with their Commands in a tree-like structure.

Schedule

Controls that have the TIMER set to Single in their Command Stack, will be shown in the Scheduler. This calender-like view allows you to enable and disable certain events in a periodic series.

Monitor

The Monitor tab provide information about incoming and outgoing messages and commands as well as warnings and errors in the current UNIVERSE Project.

Stream Deck

The StreamDeck tab allows you to add StreamDeck layouts to your Project and assign them to StreamDecks that are either connectoed locally or over the network using the UNIVERSE Satellite

Variables

The Variables tab provides an overview over the Variables that are defined for the current project and allows you to add new or modify existing Variables. You can also create or delete Variable presets and save and load them to a file.

Logic Panel

The Logic Panel contains everything that is related to the functional behaviour of your UNIVERSE Project.

Devices

The Devices tab is split in two sections. On the left there is the Device library that lists all available Devices grouped into categories. On the right is the Active Devices list that contains all Devices that have been added to the Project. To add a Device to the Project simply drag and drop it from the Device Library to the Active Devices list.

Commands

The Commands tab shows the Command Stack for the Control that is currently selected.

Trigger

The Trigger tab shows the Trigger Stack for the Control that is currently selected.

Library

The Library tab contains all Control arrangements that have been saved to the Library. To save one or multiple Devices to the Library as a group select them on-Stage, right-click them and select "To Library".

Modifier

The Modifiers tab contains all available Modifiers. To add a Modifier to your project simply drag and drop it onto a Stage.
